Due to cost considerations, we typically design them with enough load capacity to support the lights and acoustical ceiling. \u00a0That doesn&#8217;t always have to be the case though. We can also design it so that the roof of your building can be used for light storage. I recently got some photos back on a project where the customer wanted to do just that.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_647\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-647\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"top view\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632-624x468.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2632.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It was a pretty cluttered area, so hopefully the load bearing roof will give them some breathing room.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The customer wanted to put in an office for the maintenance manager and his team in order to cut down on the noise. \u00a0The corner of the facility where they were situated was already pretty cluttered and they didn&#8217;t want to lose any more space back there, so they came to us in hopes of putting in a modular office with enough load capacity on the roof to use it for long-term light storage. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_646\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151054.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-646\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151054-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"interior wall with reception window\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151054-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151054-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151054-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-646\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The sliding reception window allows the employees to easily communicate between offices.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The office was 20&#8242; wide by 12&#8242; deep. \u00a0They wanted to break it into two separate 10&#8217;x12&#8242; offices, but they wanted to make it easy to communicate between offices, so we put in an internal partition wall with a sliding reception window. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_645\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-645\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-645\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"recessed beam hangers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622-624x468.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2622.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Modular wall panels with structural connectors and hangers to support the recessed beams.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were a few things we needed to do in order to support a 100 PSF live load on the deck. We needed to put 10&#8243; c-sections spanning from the front to the back of the building attached to hangers in the ceiling plenum. \u00a0To support these c-sections, we used structural panel connectors between our wall panels as opposed to our typical tongue and groove or I-spline connections. While we could have gone with a 2-wall system due to the modular office&#8217;s location in the corner, we put a third wall along the back to support the c-sections instead of dropping columns to save the customer a little money as well. \u00a0Due to the size of the recessed c-sections we went with 9&#8242; tall panels so the customer could maintain a 8&#8242; clearance height in the room. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_649\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_150939-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-649\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-649\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_150939-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"beam in the ceiling\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_150939-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_150939-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_150939-1-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A structural c-section was recessed into the ceiling plenum at every panel connection.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were a few things we needed to do on top of the deck as well to finish it off. \u00a0We covered the corrugated roof deck with OSB so that the customer would have a smooth walking surface above. \u00a0We also fabricated and installed some surface mounted handrail and kick plate, as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/selfclosingladdersafetygates.html\">spring loaded access gate<\/a> to keep their workers from falling off the edge when moving around on the roof. \u00a0You would also need to put in a staircase to access the system, but the customer told us they were going to take care of their own egress. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_650\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151701.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-650\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151701-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"looking onto the load bearing roof\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151701-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151701-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amezz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_20190508_151701-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-650\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The surface mounted handrail will help keep workers safe when moving around on top of the office<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system went together nice and quick. \u00a0Mechanical and electrical installation took a little less than a week, and the customer was really pleased with his new office.
